HobbyGaia - Collections - Sony TC377, deck (R2R  player / recorder), year 1976. When in the distant 1982 Sony created the unforgettable slogan "It's a Sony", that quickly spread, becoming a true legend, certainly not happened by chance: the quality of its devices was very high and much appreciated , like the one of this TC377, so without surprises, the destination was marked. Years later, when its products began to appear in the supermarkets, something changed, but our TC377 is well of those times, that took to It's to Sony !!!
With its 11 kg of weight, it is practically indestructible, with a mechanic of high precision, well visible in the inner part.

It has some really interesting features, such as an excellent long-life ferrite head with a high frequency response, lower attenuation in the highs, possibility to reproduce four channels, some particular modes of recording, etc.

Surely it should be clean and oiled.
Particular attention may be needed to the selector function: it only works with the tapes inserted, and if it even disarms, control the long wire that arrives from the sensor of the tape, that besides acting the micro-switch, also acts on said selector to keep it mechanically functional, only in the presence of the tape. (red dashed direction - carefully wipe the lower part), so if this defect occurs, do not quickly discard this excellent R2R, and be more careful to check for any missing screw or other obvious signs that it has been opened.
Final score: The TC377 electronica, truly interesting and of high quality, unfortunately can't take the 100%, it will only be 50 ... and this because the excellent mechanical part, well deserves the other 50 !!!

... and if you appreciate the good music of vinyl records, remember that this system is very equivalent, probably even higher, and you can still make excellent recordings of some rare and valuable discs, or friends, and you don't want to make them spin oftentimes!!!

HobbyGaia - Collections - Sony TC377 , deck (reel player/recorder), 70's. When in the distant 1982 Sony created the unforgettable slogan "It's a Sony", which quickly spread, becoming a true legend, certainly not it happened by chance: the quality of their devices was very high and much appreciated, like that of this TC377, so unsurprisingly, the destination was set. Years later, when their products started to appear in supermarkets, something changed, but our  TC377 is from those times, which led to It's a Sony!!!

With its 11 kg of weight, it is practically indestructible, with high-precision mechanics, clearly visible on the inside.

It has some really interesting features, such as an excellent long-lasting ferrite head, with a great frequency response, and less attenuation in the highs, possibility of playing four channels, some particular recording modes, etc.

Surely it should be clean and oiled.

Particular attention may be given to the function selector: it only works with the coils inserted, and if it still trips, check the long wire that comes to it from the ribbon sensor, which, in addition to actuating the micro-switch, also acts on that selector. to keep it mechanically working, only in  tape presence. (red traced direction - carefully clean the bottom), so if this defect occurs, don't quickly discard this excellent R2R, and worry more about checking for the lack of any screws, or other obvious signs of having been opened. Also check the capacitor/resistance (filter 100nF/120 Omhs 500V - PSR .1/120) located in the voltage selector, and in case of heavy smoke, it must be checked (last photo)

Final score: The electronics of the TC377, truly interesting and of high quality, unfortunately could not reach 100%, it will only have 50... and  this is because the excellent mechanical part, well deserves the other 50!!!

... and if you appreciate the good music of vinyl records, remember that this system is very equivalent, probably even superior, and you can still make excellent recordings of some rare and valuable discs, or of friends, and that don't wants (or can) spin them many times!!!.
