Once there was a wealthy Mandarin, who had a beautiful daughter (Koong-se). She had fallen in love with her father's humble accounting assistant (Chang), angering her father. (It was inappropriate for them to marry due to their difference in social class.) He dismissed the young man and built a high fence around his house to keep the lovers apart. The Mandarin was planning for his daughter to marry a powerful Duke. The Duke arrived by boat to claim his bride, bearing a box of jewels as a gift. The wedding was to take place on the day the blossom fell from the willow tree.

On the eve of the daughter's wedding to the Duke, the young accountant, disguised as a servant, slipped into the palace unnoticed. As the lovers escaped with the jewels, the alarm was raised. They ran over a bridge, chased by the Mandarin, whip in hand. They eventually escaped on the Duke's ship to the safety of a secluded island, where they lived happily for years. But one day, the Duke learned of their refuge. Hungry for revenge, he sent soldiers, who captured the lovers and put them to death. The gods, moved by their plight, transformed the lovers into a pair of doves. (possibly a later addition to the tale, since the birds do not appear on the earliest willow pattern plates) - from Wikipedia.

HobbyGaia - Colecçoes - Belissimo prato da Fabrica de faiança  de Massarelos em perfeito estado vintage (centenario), principios do novecento;  C&W refere-se a Chambers & Wall Lda a empresa sua proprietaria, entre 1912 e 1920, que se especializou no fabrico de louça tipo ingles, com varios motivos de desenho, como o Willow Patern (Chorao), e cores predominantes de azuis, verdes e castanhos de um tema digno das Mil e uma Noites; vejamos:

A fábula romântica
Era uma vez um rico mandarim que tinha uma filha linda (Koong-se). Ela havia se apaixonado pela humilde assistente de contabilidade de seu pai (Chang), irritando seu pai. (Era impróprio para eles se casarem devido à diferença de classe social.) Ele dispensou o jovem e construiu uma cerca alta ao redor de sua casa para manter os amantes separados. O mandarim estava planejando que sua filha se casasse com um poderoso duque. O duque chegou de barco para reivindicar sua noiva, carregando uma caixa de jóias como presente. O casamento aconteceria no dia em que a flor caísse do salgueiro.

Na véspera do casamento da filha com o duque, o jovem contador, disfarçado de criado, entrou no palácio sem ser notado. Quando os amantes escaparam com as jóias, foi dado o alarme. Eles correram por uma ponte, perseguidos pelo mandarim, chicote na mão. Eles acabaram escapando no navio do duque para a segurança de uma ilha isolada, onde viveram felizes por anos. Mas um dia o duque ficou sabendo do refúgio deles. Com fome de vingança, ele enviou soldados, que capturaram os amantes e os mataram. Os deuses, movidos por sua situação, transformaram os amantes em um par de pombas (possivelmente uma adição posterior ao conto, uma vez que os pássaros não aparecem nas primeiras placas de padrão de salgueiro).(De Wikipedia)
